Abbi Falls of Onake : It is one of the most hypnotising places to visit in Agumbe for tourism. For pounding grains, Onake refers to a stick. The name refers to the water route's unmistakable resemblance to a stick. It is a 4 km trek through a lush green path from the sunset point of Agumbe to reach this waterfall. At the grassy tip, you get a spectacular view of the cascading waterfalls tumbling down a rocky route from a height of 500 ft.

Jogigundi Falls : Jogigundi waterfalls are situated in the rainforest of Agumbe with a 1 km uphill trek. It is named after a saint who years ago used to meditate here. This one runs throughout the year and emerges from a cave and forms a small pond at the bottom, unlike the quintessential waterfalls running from a great height.

Best time to visit Agumbe

Rainforest Research Station in Agumbe : Agumbe Rainforest Research Station, one of the most renowned ecological research institutes in India, was established to conserve the rainforests of South India. It is the most sought after tourist attraction for the environment and one of the most interesting places in Agumbe to visit.

It is located at an elevation of 560 m above sea level in the forest area. The station complex covers the Kudremukh National Park, Someshwara, Mookambika and Sharavathi Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. In the last few years, more than 100 king cobras have been rescued and relocated from the area. It runs and operates on hydro-electric power, in line with its eco-friendly policy.

Hills of Kundadri : The Kundadri Hills are a monolithic formation of rocks full of thick forests and several streams. It is famous for a Jain temple from the 17th century with two ponds that get their water from the Tunga River that flows near this location. It draws visitors to the view of the backwaters and mountains of the Varahi Dam. In many travellers' list of places to visit in Agumbe, Kundadri hills make an appearance. Theertha Falls Koodlu : Koodlu Theertha Falls is a fascinating waterfall situated on Karnataka's Udupi-Agumbe Route. The waterfall is the first fall of the Sita River and is hidden deep in the Western Ghats' thick forests. It is called Sita Falls by virtue of its roots, and is 300 ft high. This is definitely one of the country's most pristine waterfalls and one of the most peaceful places to visit in Agumbe.

The walk up to the falls is an exciting journey as well. The trek route takes you through the forest and takes you to the banks of the River Sita, as it is an isolated and lesser-known place to visit near Agumbe. Walk over the bridge over the Sita River and you'll enter a small stream a little farther downstream. You will find yourself right after the water, at the falls.

National Park Kudremukh : The ever-famous Kudremukh National Park is an exciting day trip to take if you're done and dusty with everything else from Agumbe Village! This park is part of the Tiger Sanctuary of Bhadra and is a listed sanctuary of the Tiger Reserve. It's almost a two-hour drive from Agumbe. The starting point for the Tunga, Bhadra and Nethravathi rivers is in this park. The Malabar trogon, the Malabar whistling thrush, the great pied hornbill and the imperial pigeon can also be seen.

Someshwara Sanctuary for Wildlife : The Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Karnataka's Udupi District. It falls below the range of the Agumbe Forest, however. You can make one last stop at this wildlife sanctuary when you visit all the places mentioned above and if you have decided to go back home (we know you want to!).

The Barking Deer, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Tiger, Bonnet Macaque, Leopard, Lion Tailed Macaque, Common Langur, Gaur, Jackal, Wild Dog and Wild Pig are home to many species. There are also a few exotic birds in this region, such as Malabar Pied Hornbill, Malabar Trogon, Ceylon Frogmouth, and Malabar Whistling Thrush, for all bird watchers. You can go trekking as well, but because of a few restrictions from the government's end, you need to get the permission of the concerned authorities first. Apart from this, if you want, camping and river rafting during the monsoon are also available!

Temple of Gopalakrishna : In Agumbe, Gopalkrishna temple is a popular tourist attraction. This temple, built in the 14th century, has been drawing tourists since then. The temple reflects the architecture and architectural style of Hoysala, and is renowned for its beautiful sculptures.


Falls at Kunchikal : This spot is a must-visit tourist attraction in Agumbe with the title of the highest waterfall in India and the second highest in Asia. It has an elevation of 1,493 ft. It is created by the river Varahi and lies in the Ghats of the West. A primary source for one of the hydroelectric projects operating in Karnataka is this fall.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Mangalore to Agumbe Sightseeing

Departing from Chennai airport. Morning arrival at Mangalore airport. Pick up and then transfer to Hotel. Towards Agumbe. Hotel Check in. Then proceed to visit Agumbe major attractions such as Barkana falls, Jogi Gundi Falls and Onake Abbi Falls. Come back to Hotel. Overnight stay at Agumbe.

Day 2 - Agumbe Sightseeing

Morning breakfast and then Check out from Hotel. Then proceed to visit Agumbe major attractions such as Agumbe Sunset View Point, Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary and Agumbe Reserve Forest. Then Proceed towards airport. Finally drop at Mangalore airport.
