About Temple:Punyakotinathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Thiruvidaivasal Village in
Thiruvarur District of Tamilnadu. This Place is also called as Thiruvidaivaai. This is the 276th Devaram
Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam which was found after 274 temples on the south side of river Cauvery in
Chozha Nadu. This was due to Tirugnanasambandar hymns Kalvettu on the Karuvarai wall. The 275th
Thevara Sthalam added in 1917.

History:

• This Shivastalam was added to the collection of 274 Shivasthalams in 1917 to make it 276. 
• The templeand the Thevara hymns dedicated to this shrine in inscriptions were found during digging a mud mound and so is not a part of the original collection of the Thirumurais compiled by Nambiyandar Nambi. Thepathigam here is referred to as Puthiya Pathigam. 
• Appar refers to this shrine as Vidaivaikkudi in hisAdaivu Thiruttandakam.
• There is no Rajagopuram and Kodimaram.
  
• Ganapathi, Durga and other deities in the Devakoshtam arenoteworthy. The sculpture showing Ambal holding Sambandar on her lap and offering the Holy Milk islocated at the entrance of Abhirami shrine.
  
• Sambandar worshipping the God and the Goddess right on top of the main entrance is enchanting.Nandi is located in a small Mandapam facing main deity. 
• This Temple is known for an importantinscription. Unlike the inscriptions of other places, this one is nothing but a Thevaram Pathigams bySambandar during his visit. 
• This inscription came to light only in the year 1917. Until then, the numberof Thevara Sthalams was 275 and with this finding the number went up to 276.
  
• Naalvar & Vinayagar and Ambal Sannidhi facing south are located in Arthamandapam. Dwarabalakarsand Dwarabalakis paintings are located at the entrance of Lord and Mother Sanctums, NarthanaVinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai are the Koshta Idols located on thesanctum walls.
  

Itinerary

Day 1 - Thiruvarur Sightseeing

Pick up from Theni/Dindigul. Proceeding towards Thiruvarur Hotel Check in. Then proceed to visit Punyakotinathar Temple, Thiruvidaivasal. Arulmigu Abathsahyeswarar Temple. Arulmigu Saraswathi Temple. Come back to Hotel. Overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 2 - Thiruvarur Sightseeing

After Refreshment and Breakfast at Hotel. Check out from Hotel. Then proceed to visit Thiru Pampunathar Rahu Kethu Sri Agnieeswarar Temple sri Seshapureeswarar Temple. Then Starting Our Journey Towards Theni/Dindigul.
