Dolukanda : Dolukanda is another popular place in Sri Lanka with strong ties to the Indian epic Ramayana, situated near Hiripitiya, as it is one of five places where a piece of Sanjeevani Mountain was accidentally dropped by Lord Hanuman. According to legend, Rama asked Lord Hanuman to fetch herbs to save Lakshmana, who had been critically injured in the war with King Ravana. The whole Sanjeevani Mountain had been brought to Hanuman as he was unable to recognize the herb. Some parts of the mountain, namely Dolukanda, Rumassala, Ritigala, Thailand, and Kachchativu, fall in five places in Lanka while flying. Now at the foot of Dolukanda, there is a large but dilapidated monastery that also served as a healing center during the time of Anuradhapura.
Sita Kotuwa : As part of the Ramayana Tour Package, Gurulupotha, Sita Kotuwa is one of the important places to visit in Sri Lanka. This is the first place where after abducting her, Sita was held captive by King Ravana. This was the place surrounded by waterfalls and streams once the city of Lanakapura stood, and Seetha Devi was held at the palace of Queen Mandodhari at Lankapura until she was transferred to Ashoka Vatika. Seetha Kotuwa refers to the Fort of Seetha and got its name because Seetha Devi stayed here. There are so many tourist places in Sri Lanka, from soft-sand beaches to enchanting UNESCO World Heritage Sites, daunting mountains to thick wildlife, and from famous Buddhist worship locations to renowned Hindu temples. Besides, some ancient spiritual places that are connected to the great Hindu epic Ramayana are also home to this island nation. Sri Lanka is the best place to visit some important places connected with Ramayana as part of Sri Lanka if you are fond of history and mythology.
The Ramayana is an ancient Sanskrit epic and an important part of the Hindu canon attributed to the poet Valmiki. The Ramayana consists of 7 chapters (K?nda), one of the most important literary works of ancient India, and narrates the tale of the abduction of Rama's wife Sita by Ravana, the demon (R?kshasa) king of Lanka. Ayodhya in India begins with the Ramayana and climaxes at Lankapura (Sri Lanka).Ramayana has fascinated many centuries and had a profound influence on art and culture in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. There are several places that are related to the Ramayana in Sri Lanka.
The R?vana Abduction of Sita : R?vana was Lanka's ruler, and there were nine other kingdoms. He was known as Davis (or Dasa Shirsha), meaning 10 heads, and for his ten kingdoms, he had ten crowns, one each. His Surpanakha sister went to Jambudweepa to do some business. At his hermitage, Surpanakha chanced upon Rama and became enamored of the handsome prince. Rama, who was loyal to his wife Sita, did not respond and asked Surpanakha to approach the unmarried Lakshmana.
Surpanakha, who was embarrassed by this, tried to attack Sita in frustration, claiming that Sita was the reason for her disdain for the men. Then Lakshmana intervened and cut Surpanakha's nose off. Surpanakha, frightened and in distress, immediately flew to Lanka to seek R?vana's safety. When Ravana asked the cause of his sister, Surpanakha said she saw Sita, a lady of incomparable beauty, and she wanted to bring her to Ravana. Sita Devi was held at the Lankapura palace of Queen Mandothari. The place where Sita was kept captive is known as Sita Kotuwa, which means the Sinhala Fort of Sita. It is assumed that R?vana had an aircraft repair center near Sita Kotuwa at Gurulupotha. In Sinhala, Gurulupotha means Pieces of Birds.
Taking Sita from Sita Kotuwa to Ashok Vatika : Ravana transferred Sita from Sita Kotuwa to the salubrious mountain garden of Ashok Vatika. The route was also said to be spectacularly beautiful, as Ravana wanted to show his kingdom's beauty to Sita. Still evident is the Chariot Route atop the mountain range. Sita Devi's tears are believed to have created the Sita Tear Pond close to the Chariot Road. Visitors were also able to see the famous Sita flowers that are endemic to this area.
Ashok Vatika Captivity : Ashok Vatika is a garden where Sita was kept captive by R?vana. It's in the Sita Eliya region close to Nuwara Eliya city. Part of the famous Ashok Vatika is the Hakgala Gardens, located at the base of the Hakgala Rock. A barren area atop the Hakgala Rock Jungle where Sita was held captive is the Sita Pokuna. Sita Devi is scheduled to bathe in Sita Eliya's stream. The Temple of Sita Amman is located in this location.
Hanuman agreed to test the power of King R?vana and his army of Rakshas after meeting Sita at Ashok Vatika. By uprooting trees and destroying the garden, he called for war. Hanuman was brought into the presence of R?vana after being captured by the Rakshasa guards. In response, Hanuman set the houses in the town on fire. One such torched place is Ussangoda. Hanuman was resting in Mani Kattuthar on the way back to India. Nearby is the village of Kondagala in Tamil, known as Kondakalai, where Sita is said to have ruined her hair as she passed by. The village also includes Sita Google, which are rice balls given to Sita by Ravana; she declined and threw them away.
After the visit by Hanuman, Sita is secret: One such complex of tunnels and caves is R?vanagoda, which means the position of Ravana in the Kotmale district. Another ingenious network of paths linking all major areas of King R?vana's city is Istreepura. In Sinhala, Istreepura means Women's Field.
Around Munneshwaram : It is believed that the Ramayana is predated by Munneswaram and there was a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. For Shiva, Munneswaram means the first temple (Munnu + Easwaran). There was already a Shiva Lingam here when Lord Rama visited the place. Rama left for Ayodhya with Sita in one of the vimanas of King Ravana after his triumphant war. He thought that Bramhaasthi (a malevolent black shadow) was trailing him because he had killed King Ravana, who was a Brahmin.
Dolu Kanda-Drops of Sanjeevani : Both Rama and Lakshmana were struck by powerful arrows at various points during the war and fell unconscious. Hanuman was told to fetch life-saving herbs from the Himalayas in order to get them back to life. Hanuman went up to the hill, raised the entire hill, and took it with him as he could not find the herbs that saved his life alone. In Sri Lanka, parts of the hill fall on five sites, namely Rumasala in Galle, Dolu Kanda in Hiripitiya, Ritigala in Habarana,
Diwurumpola : This is the location where Sita went through the "Agni" test. She came out unscathed and proved that she was innocent and pure. The message of the triumph of Rama over Ravana has been sent to Sita. She was caught on a palanquin before Rama after a bath and decorated with jewels. She was overwhelmed with emotion when she met her husband after such a long time, but Rama seemed lost in thought. He spoke at length, "I killed my enemy." As a true king, I have done my job.
