It is the tomb of Humayun, the famous Mughal Emperor of India. It was commissioned in 1569-70 by Humayun's first wife, who was also the chief consort, Empress Bega Begum. In the heart of Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, a Persian architect invited by Bega Begum herself, the tomb design was born.
