In 2016, we attempted our first ever trek to the famous mountains of Kheerganga. And we tried another Himachal trek the following week, which was the seductive Prashar Lake trek. We were quite new to travelling when we tried both these treks and were very nervous about the experience.
But what we have not realised is how these experiences of travelling and trekking can change us and make us who we are. Nowadays, on weekends, you can find a lot of people going on the Prashar Lake trek. But this wasn't such a popular trek until 3 years ago, and you didn't see a lot of travellers around here.
Nevertheless, we enjoyed our tour of this wonderful place and even made some great friends along the way. So, if you are also planning to undertake the Prashar Lake trek, then we have noted all the data below. Sure, to schedule your trek, you may select a travel business. However, if you want the best experience, we will advise you, just like we did, to schedule your trek yourself.
Lake Prashar Trek : Situated 60 km north of Mandi, Prashar Lake lies next to a three-storey pagoda-like temple. Prashar Lake is situated at an altitude of around 2730 m, surrounded by the mesmerising ranges of Dhauladhar. You literally get a 180-degree view of the mountain ranges of Dhauladhar, Kinnaur, and Pir Pinjal from here.
The pagoda-like temple next to the lake uses the traditional architecture of Himachali and is dedicated to Prashar the sage. The temple was founded in the 13th century, according to the locals, by a child using a single tree. This is also said to be the place where the sage Prashar used to meditate, which is why the locals consider this lake to be very sacred. But these are only a few of the many tales about this location that make this lake so mysterious to travellers.
A small floating island in the lake that travels around the lake is also situated here. The island floats due to the oxygen produced by the plants' roots, made up of plant matter in various decomposition stages. One of the most interesting things about this place is that the exact depth of this lake is not known by anyone.
The easiest way to reach the world of mountains is one of the simpler treks, the Prashar Lake trek. And since there is a motorway connecting the village of Baggi to Prashar, you can take the easy way out as well. But frankly, the trek is pretty straightforward and can even be tried with children.
