Kanchipuram is one of India 's holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites and the birthplace of Shankaracharya. The temple town of Kanchipuram ranges from 12 ° 50 'latitude in the north to 79 ° 45' longitude in the east. The city is located in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, about 70 km from Chennai.
One of the most important centres of the Hindu religion and also one of the most picturesque is Kanchipuram, or the Golden City of Temples. The place is one of the seven holy cities of India and, after Varanasi, the second holiest.
The town was once the capital of the rulers of the Pallavas, Cholas, and Vijayanagar. It was under the Pallavas from the 6th to the 8th centuries AD, but the Chalukyas and the Rashtrakutas also occupied it briefly during that time. The Pallavas and later Cholas are the work of many of the temples located here.
The remains of a few Buddhist stupas suggest that Buddhism has flourished for a little while here as well. The Kanchi Kamakotti Peetham is situated here as one of the four seats of Sri Adi Shankaracharya (a great Hindu sage). For centuries, it has been a centre for Tamil learning and culture and presents the glorious Dravidian heritage of the Vaishnavites (Vishnu worshippers) and Shaivites (Shiva worshippers).
Kamakshi Amman Temple : Southern India is well known for its cultural heritage, and a significant gem from the past is the Kamakshi Amman Temple. This place of worship, situated in the middle of Kanchipuram, also known as the City of Temples, is home to the divine Goddess Kamakshi, who is believed to be the embodiment of Parvati, the Hindu goddess of love, fertility and power.
One of the 51 Shakti Peethas, which are holy shrines constructed around the dropping body parts of the Goddess Sati's corpse from heaven, is the Kamakshi Amman temple. The naval portion of her body is believed to have collapsed at this spot, making it a holy abode.
Shaktism is based on a tradition of Hinduism that focuses on adoring the Goddess. The letter 'Ka' in the name of Kamakshi refers to Saraswati (the Goddess of intelligence and wisdom), 'ma' refers to Lakshmi (the Goddess of riches and prosperity), while 'akshi' refers to gracious eyes. These three Hindu Goddesses or Devis, together, form the holy trinity of the universe's female transcendental force.
The Varadharaja Perumal Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the town of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu. It is one of the 108 devoted Divya Desams to Lord Vishnu and is of great religious significance. It is also known that this temple was visited by the Alwars or the poetic saints. The complex of the temple is vast and is a worship work that was constructed during the reign of the Chola Kings. It is, therefore, of great historical significance as well.
In Vishnu Kanchi, particularly during the 10-day Vaikasi Brahmmotsavam, Purattasi Navaratri and Vaikunda Ekadasi, devotees of Lord Vishnu from around the world visit the temple to seek blessings. One and all will certainly be mesmerised by the magnificent architecture of the temple complex and the intricate carvings. The serene environment of this dreaded location is so surreal and unexplainable that to experience it, you just have to visit the temple.
Along with the Ekambareswarar and Kamakshi Amman Temples, Varadharaja Perumal Temple is part of the Mumurtivasam trio. Also known as Perumal Koil, the temple is thought to be highly sacred in Vaishnavism. Visitors will explore the huge temple complex that has 32 shrines and other features designed according to the architecture of the ancient temple. This temple has Lord Vishnu 's special idol built out of wood.
In a silver box, the idol is held and submerged in water. Locals assume that after the idol is completely immersed in water, the area has received strong rainfall. In the Vedanta Desika, Thirtha Prabandha Peyalvar, Bhoothathalvar and several compositions produced by Muthuswami and Tyagaraja Dikshitar in the 18th century, the temple and storeys related to it have been described.
Kanchi Kailasanathar Temple is an important religious site located on the banks of the Vedavathi River, facing the east side of Tamil Nadu's Kanchipuram District, at the western limits. For the Hindu devotees, the temple holds great significance and importance and is visited by a large number of tourists during the year, but at the time of the Mahashivratri the number of visitors increases dramatically.
Beautiful paintings and fantastic sculptures embellish the Kanchi Kailasanathar temple. The Temple is the oldest temple among all the temples located in Tamil Nadu and was founded in 685 A.D. And A.D. 705. The construction of this grand structure was begun by the Pallava ruler Rajasimha, while it was completed by his son Mahendra Varma Pallava.
The temple 's architecture is an exemplary example of the Dravidian architectural style, and the temple is carved out of sandstone. This temple 's architectural beauty is strikingly distinct from that of all the other temples in Tamil Nadu. The sixteen-sided Shiva lingam that is made up of black granite at the main shrine is a striking feature.
The Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, situated in one of the Pancha Bhuta Sthalas, Kanchipuram, is a monastic institution for the Hindu religion. Five materials necessary for our life are the Pancha Bhuta Sthalas, namely-Earth, Sky, Water, Fire and Air. Of these, Kanchipuram is Earth, Chidambaram is Sky, Thiruvanaikoil is Water, Thiruvannamalai is Fire, and Kalahasti is Air.
Visitors also find the organisation a place where harmony can be found. In a pure world that is rarely seen in today's globe, management still follows conventional practises. At noon, they serve all visitors with the Ananda Prasadam, which will immediately bring the soul to rest. Without any prejudice, people from all castes and beliefs are welcome to visit and attend the traditional poojas.
Highly influenced by the Hindu faith, many of the temples are supposedly Hindu temples that can be seen here. At Kanchi Kudhil, the ancient culture and the spiritual heritage of Hinduism are seen. It is a small house that illustrates just how the Hindu faith is entangled with the history of India and the modern way of life. Visitors are welcome to this delightful place of exploration.
For a person of another faith, there is no suitable way to apprehend and understand the captivating religion of Hinduism than to visit the Kanchi Kudhil.
The largest temple in Kanchipuram is the Ekambaranatha Temple. It covers a huge 20-acre field. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the Pallavas built it and then both the Cholas and the Rayas restored it in turn.
The fact that the 1000 lingas are all carved out of one solitary stone is one notable aspect of this temple. Also, inside the temple, there are one thousand pillared halls. There is a mango tree outside the Ekambaranatha Temple, which is about 3500 years old. There are four different limbs (Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharvana) found on the tree that represent the Four Vedas. Tradition has it that, even though they are all on the same tree, the fruit from each branch tastes different.
During the 7th century, the Vaikunda Perumal Temple was founded by King Nadivarman II of Pallava. Lord Vishnu is devoted to this unique temple. In reality, in standing, sitting and reclining forms on towering vimanas that can be seen throughout the temple, Lord Vishnu 's image can be seen.
