It lies about 460 kilometres from the mainland of Kochi and about 530 kilometres from the port of Kollam. The island has a lagoon area of 25 square kilometres. The nearest island, which is about 7 kilometres from Agatti, is Bangaram Island. It lies north-east of the islands of Agatti. Kavaratti Island is situated south-east of Agatti at a distance of around 55 kilometres.
