The Araku Valley is a hill station in the eastern Ghats, about 120 km west of Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam city. Visitors are captivated by the undulating coffee plantations, vast rain forests, greener valleys, silvery waterfalls, and foggy clouds. In the Araku Valley, there are many tourist places that draw tourists every year. Nature lovers will enjoy the fantastic beauty of sparkling waterfalls such as Chaparai Waterfalls, Ananthagiri Waterfalls, etc. at a gala time.
The Borra Caves in the Valley of Araku are a visual delight for visitors. The caves that the British geologist William King found in 1807 are also a place of geological significance. Another tourist place that showcases fish of various varieties and sizes is the "Fish Bowl" or Matsyagundam. The legend says that the local god "Mahalingeshwara Swamy" saved and blessed the fish from the snakes.
Visitors make a beeline to enjoy the serenity of nature in this area, but not for angling or fish consumption. While visitors are captivated by the coffee plantations, gardens, and museums, the activities of trekking and rock climbing attract outdoor sports enthusiasts.
Caves Borra : Known by the locals as Borra Guhalu, one of the most adventurous places to visit in Vizag is the Borra Caves of Vizag. This Vizag tourist attraction is situated in the Araku Valley, in the Ananthagiri Hills. The hills rise from 800-1400 m to a staggering height.
The Borra Caves are capped at an altitude of 705 m with speleothems, stalactites, and stalagmites. These caves, approximately 80 m deep, consist of karstic limestone and are considered the deepest in the world. As a tourist, as you walk on complicated paths to enter the caves, you can enjoy the scenic beauty of the caves. Do not forget to revel in the tales of the locals about the past and the caves' presiding deity.
Museum for Coffee : In the Araku Valley, one of the places to visit is the Coffee Museum. In 1930, to highlight the beauty of Arabica Coffee, a migrant by the name of Prakash Rao set up a catering service for visitors. He opened up a coffee house in 1954, catering to international delegates and coffee traders. It is now available to everyone, however.
A series of pictures describing the origin and history of coffee are seen in the museum staffed by educated tribal staff. 60 coffee types and an array of 600 coffee chocolates are marketed. By indulging in delicacies such as chocolates, sandwiches, brownies, mousses, tarts, etc and savouring relaxing coffees, visitors will satisfy their hunger and appease their desire.
Gardens in Padmapuram : One of the popular places to visit in the Araku Valley is Padmapuram Gardens. It was constructed in 1942 to produce and supply World War II soldiers with vegetables. It was later turned into a teaching centre for the Horticultural Nursery. The 26-acre nursery includes orchards, a vibrant riot of flowers, a wonderful rose garden, tropical plants, eucalyptus trees, pine trees, etc.
Tree-top huts are the striking characteristic of the Padmapuram Botanical Gardens. They are 10 feet above the level of the ground and have attached toilets and continuous water supply, also known as hanging cottages. If a strong wind blows through, visitors can linger & feel the thrill of swaying in the air. This garden also features an Araku Express toy train. On a tour of the entire botanical garden, the Araku Express takes adults (Rs. 20) and children (Rs. 10).
Museum of Tribals : It is one of the most popular places to visit in the valley of Araku. In the small town of Araku, about 110 km from Visakhapatnam, the Araku Tribal Museum is located. The Tribal Museum showcases the objects of tribal life, unlike other museums that house historical items. The 2-storey tribal building is constructed using traditional indigenous materials such as mud, metals, etc., and in the form of colours, motifs, and frames used, demonstrates native tribal architecture.
Dioramas depicting the tribal lifestyle, regular kitchen utensils made of iron and mud, musical instruments, and wall paintings of market scenes and clay pottery are shown on the first floor of the red-colored rotund building. It shows Mayur and Dhimsa local tribal dances from a number of festivals and life-sized figurines wearing colourful clothing with matching accessories. Masks and exotic objects belonging to the Tribal culture of the Eastern Ghats adorn the walls. A souvenir shop and the Tribal Arts and Design centre are located on the second floor. 10 double spaces, public facilities, and a cafeteria are all located in the middle.
View Point for Galikonda : The uppermost point of the Visakhapatnam district is Galikonda View Point. As the road will be bumpy and the trek will be exciting along the narrow slippery route, the whole trip is adventurous.

Chaparai Cascade for Water : The Chaparai Water Cascade is situated about 15 km from the Araku Valley, on the Paderu-Araku route. In its strict sense, while the place is not a waterfall, the slanting surfaces of the hillocks allow water glide over them and flow over the huge rock formations as a continuous stream.
Beauty is added to the place by the lush greenery, dense forest cover, and hills in the distance. The ankle-deep gushing water invites families to get in and enjoy swimming or engage in splashing water over each other. The depth of the water and the slippery nature of the rocks should be taken care of by tourists, however. Tourists will enjoy the tasty "Bamboo Chicken" that the locals cook and also take part in their cultural dance.
Waterfalls in Sangda : Sangda Waterfalls, located near Sangda Village in the Eastern Ghats, is one of the places to see in the Araku Valley. An inexplicable experience is portrayed by cascading milky white waters against the backdrop of the green foliage of the surrounding mountain ranges.
It is a pathway for millennials to appreciate the calm and pristine environment, accustomed to sound and air pollution. For nature lovers, relatives, and honeymooners, the falls are a favourite tourist location.
The best time to visit the waterfalls of Sangda is after the rainy season. As a consequence of rain, the streams overflow and feed the waterfalls, thereby raising the waterfall's width and height. The gushing waters from height present the tourists with a visual treat. Tourists also come during the winter. As the water dries up and does not present a beautiful sight, summer is not fitting.
WaterFalls Rana Jilleda : The Rana Jilleda Waterfalls are located 3 km from the Botanical Gardens of Padmapuram. It is one of the lesser-known waterfalls located in the Araku Valley, near the village of Rana Jilleda. The waterfalls at a height of 60 ft are also known as the Araku Waterfalls. Visitors should drive straight from Padmapuram Gardens to Rana Jilleda village in order to reach this waterfall.
Visitors have to trek for 10-15 minutes from the village to reach the summit of the falls. It is not entertaining to swim in the vast pool under the waterfall, since this is Araku's only source of water.
Best time to visit: The best time to visit the waterfalls is the post-monsoon season when the flow is plentiful and heavy. During winter, tourists can visit the place too. It's not the safest time to visit the waterfall in the summer.
