Vembanad Lake: This enormous lake / lagoon is the largest lake in the country and the largest lake in Kerala, accessible from Kottayam, Kuttanad and Kochi. Chettikulangara Devi Temple is one of the most famous Hindu temples in Kerala, especially visited by followers if the primary deity is Sree Bhadarakali. The Goddess is worshipped in 3 different ways: Maha Saraswati, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Kali or Durga. It is considered a symbol of culture and faith. It is believed the temple is 1200 years old. There is not a lot of proof or reasons for its existence.
The temple grants mental peace to its guests. It has a special function. The goddess appears in the morning to be Maha Saraswati, at noon to be Maha Lakshmi and at night to be Sree Durga or Maha Kaali. Devotees visit the temple so that their wishes come true. There are various rituals that can be carried out by Thottam Pattu, Sarpam Pattu, Payasam, Kadumpayasam, Thriimadura Nivedya, Kumkum Abhisheka and Pushparchana. The temple hosts various festivals every year. It provides special poojas on Tuesdays and Fridays. A lamp with 1001 lighting points is lit on the first day of each month as an offering to Maha Bhadrakali.
