Thanks to its more than 7,000 islands, the Philippines is a destination that is easy to visit several times. As a tourist, the most difficult decision you make is to find out which island to visit first. The Philippines, representing various parts of the world, is divided into the three major island groups of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The terrain varies from mountainous and tropical to metropolitan in each region of the Philippines. You can enjoy a day of strolling through the old colonial streets of Manila, the capital or catch a rare glimpse of the tiny tarsier monkeys of Bohol Island's private sanctuary. Since you are surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, it is not shocking that the Philippines has some of the best beaches in Asia. The steep, plush mountains offer unforgettable hiking experiences.
Boracay :There is a reason why Boracay Island, although there are more than 12 beaches, is considered the beach capital of the Philippines. This tiny island is suitable for beach-goers who are after simple relaxation in the sun or water activities in the western Visayas region. One of the best beaches in the Philippines is White Beach, situated on the west side of the island.
On the tip of the island, Puka Shell Beach is a favorite location for shell collectors. Cagban Beach is a peaceful place with caves nearby which are rumored to still hold treasure chests. At the north end of White Beach, Diniwid Beach is a small beach that has the best view of the island from a platform rock situated there. This island is renowned for its many resorts, so it's easy to find a place to stay. Take a day trip to Mount Luho, its highest point, for a panoramic view of the island.
Cebu : In the central area of Visayas, the island of Cebu is known to be the port for some of the finest diving and snorkeling in the Philippines. Cebu is one of your best choices for excursions that bring you close to whale sharks, coral reefs, and sea turtles if you are an underwater enthusiast.
The sea caves that draw photographers and outdoor enthusiasts searching for exotic diving and snorkeling sites are some of the most stunning water scenery near Cebu. Located about an hour from Cebu City, Sudlon National Park is a breathtaking park for exploring and hiking. Cebu City is a metropolitan area, with tourist attractions such as museums and cathedrals that will interest history buffs, while Cebu's biggest draw is its climate.
Philippines places to visit
Banaue-Banaue : One of the most striking things to see in the Philippines is the rice terraces of Banaue. An agricultural marvel in this region is the emerald-green terraces. At sunrise, the most spectacular view of the terraces is when clouds and fog raise off the mountain to expose the intricate terrace landscape. The Batad Rice Terraces and the UNESCO World Heritage Sites are covered by the Bangaan Rice Terraces.
Vigan-Vigan : One of the most charming towns to visit in the Luzon region is the historical city of Vigan in the northern Philippines. Its culture is a mixture of Chinese and Spanish influences from the area's colonists. Take a ride through the streets in a horse-drawn kalesa and admire the colonial architecture, courtesy of the Spaniards who in the 18th century colonized the city.
Vigan is a town that has plenty of complexities to discover. Bantay Bell Tower, which is also a noted landmark in the area, offers the best view of the area. The historic district of Calle Crisologo is a walkable district where you'll meet many local craftsmen and see historical architecture. A visit to the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Paul is incredible and a great place for sitting and watching people as you take in the local culture.
Manila : The capital of Manila in the Philippines, on the island of Luzon, is a busy city with non-stop traffic. To get a taste of local life while visiting the top attractions of the area, climb onboard one of the colorful jeepneys, the main type of public transport. The bumpy ride through the streets of the popular and kitschy jeep/bus hybrid vehicles, normally over-packed with locals, will be one of the highlights of your visit.
The plan stops at Rizal Park, the main park in the city, and the historic San Agustin Church, built in the 16th century. Buy local fruits and homemade gifts at Quiapo Church's public market, where you are likely to see several thousand people turning up to worship on Fridays.
Sagada : The Northern Tribal Area in Sagada is one of the most interesting experiences you can have in the Philippines. Tribes that welcome the occasional tourist are nestled in the rugged and isolated Cordillera Mountains. To the advanced outdoor enthusiast, this region is a paradise. The steep mountains and high elevation boost the level of excitement and ability needed for outdoor adventure.
The hanging coffins that hide deep in the mountains are one of the finest places to visit in this area of the Philippines. To take you to this amazing location, it is best to communicate with a local guide because this is not a tourist place, but rather an authentic tribal region concealing an experience worthy of bragging rights. Hiking is common in Sagada, especially Mount Ampaco, which has the highest peak in the area, or through the steep and rough terrain of the Echo Valley.
Must see places in Philippines
Island of Coron : Coron Island, one of the world's best diving destinations, is a tropical paradise with electric blue and green water that seems almost surreal. The mountainous island lies on the tip of the area of the Palawan Islands, the Philippines' westernmost part of the islands. Due to the numerous wrecks here, the island is famous for diving.
Many of the preserved shipwrecks range from shallow water at a depth of only three meters to deep water at a depth of 42 meters. Because of their size, some of the wrecks take more than one dive to explore, but you can easily spend a week diving in this area. Check out Barracuda Lake, a former volcano with many rare rock formations and fish, for non-shipwreck diving.
Princesa Puerto : The secret paradise of the Philippines is the rock islands, caves, and natural parks of Palawan Island. In order to discover some of these natural gems of the world, the coastal city of Puerto Princesa is where you should base yourself. A perfect first stop to see a five-mile underground river and spectacular limestone caves are the Subterranean River, National Park
There are boat tours to the UNESCO World Heritage site that take you around the national park. Honda Bay, which is famous for snorkeling, and Ugong Rock, where you can try ziplining and caving, are other must-see sites in Puerto Princesa.
Samal Samal : Hiking, swimming, and kayaking are a way of life on Samal Island, also called the Garden City of Samal. In addition to relaxing on the beach, one of the top things to do on Samal Island is to visit the Monfort Bat Sanctuary, which is home to millions of bats in the caves. Hagimit Falls is a pleasant day trip away from the beach, where you can walk on nature trails and cool off in one of the pools below the tropical waterfalls. A short distance away from Davao City is Samal Island,
Siargao's : Travelers who enjoy making an itinerary should place Siargao Island on the agenda as they go. With experiences, from sought-after surfing waves to unique rock formations and breathtaking waterfalls, the small island is huge.
Surfing is the best thing Siargao is popular for. There's the popular Cloud 9 break, but there are plenty of places on the coast that bring in big waves. But, even if you don't surf, it's a nice experience to see some of the championship surfers who come to the island.
Deep-sea fishing out of Siargao is popular as anglers try sailfish and mahi-mahi all year round. Another choice for a trip when you visit Siargao is to go to places like Bucas Grande, where you can see the Sohoton Caves and the non-sting jellyfish, for some island hopping.
