Megamlai Hills: Located in the Western Ghats, Meghamalai Hills is 70 km away from Theni. The area is rich in wildlife and natural vegetation. For bird watchers, this is a common location. To conserve biodiversity, the Tamil Nadu government has proposed a wildlife sanctuary here. The High Wavy Mountains are also known as the Meghamalai Hills. It offers a lovely view of the surrounding areas. It is also the birthplace of the Falls of Meghamalai and the Falls of Suruli.
Suruli Falls : The Suruli Falls are famous for the 18 caves that depict 18th century Indian rock-cut architecture. This waterfall lies approximately 47 km from Theni. The water gathers into a pool and then plummets about 40 ft again. The place from which the Suruli Falls originate is Meghamalai. The beauty of this fall is sung by the Tamil poet Ilango Adigal in the epic, Silappathikaram.
A centre of herbs with medicinal properties is the field close to the fall. The Suruli Velappar Temple stands about half a kilometre away from the waterfall. The summer festival is celebrated each year by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department at Suruli Falls. It is flooded by visitors from various parts of India during the monsoon season. Changing rooms are built, and visitors have showers installed.
Kailasanathar Temple: The Temple Cave of Kailasanathar is located near Suruli Falls. The Cave of the Temple stands at an altitude of 800 m above sea level. There is a natural spring in the temple that is believed to have healing properties. A Dargah named after the 17th century Muslim Saint Abubacker Masthan is in the vicinity of the temple cave. Devotees take pots of milk to this temple on Saturdays.
Kumbakkarai Falls : The Kumbakkarai Fall originated in the Kodaikanal Hills of the Western Ghats. It lies in a location named Kumbakkarai, 9 km from the small town of Periyakulam. It is approximately 24 km from Theni. In a natural set-up where the chirping of birds welcomes tourists, the waterfall is located. Two stages constitute the Kumbakkarai Decline. Water plumages from a height of 400 m are collected in the enormous rock alcoves named after wild animals.
Near the collapse is a statue of Lord Murugan. In the fall, tourists love to take a swim. As it originates in the Meghamali Hills, the Chinna Suruli Fall is also named by the name of Cloudland Falls. This water fall is located near the village of Kombaithozhu and is about 54 km from Theni.
Mavoothu Temple : Around 93 km from Theni and 78 km from Anipatti, Mavoothu is located. The place is famous for the Temple of Velappar, which stands on Varushanad Hill. Lord Vinayaka is devoted to the Temple. In this temple that was built by the Kandamanur Zamindaar, there is a shrine of the Saptakannikas. Inside the temple, there is a spring. This spring's water is believed to have the ability to heal illnesses and ailments. In Tamil, Mavoothu refers to "spring of the Mango Grove." The place receives heavy precipitation, and this rainwater collects around the many mango trees that the place has. Consequently, it received its name.
For hiking and nature walks, including the 12 km walk from Kurangani village to Top Station via the central village, the Kurangani Hills near Bodinayakkanur in Theni district are suitable.
