Sirumalai is situated 25 km (16 mi) from Dindigul and 40 ken (25 mi) from Madurai, Tamilnadu , India and is an area of 60,000 acres (200 km2). The region has many high hills. Sirumalai is where Hillock International School is situated. Throughout the year, Sirumalai is a thick forest area with a mild climate. It includes diversified flora and fauna, with an altitude of 1600 metres above sea level. There are 18 hairpin bends on the slope.
Sirumalai Hills has many picturesque natural attractions that are enjoyed by its tourists and make it a popular destination.
Church of the AnnaiVelankanni : At the peak of the hill, the church is on a slope. There are 2 bones at the nearest bus stop. In September, citizens celebrate the "Our Lady of Good Health" festival annually, with a flag hoisted prior to the festival.
Lake Sirumalai : Sirumalai Lake consists of a small lake which was formed artificially in 2010. This is a man-made lake. This lake is bordered by tall, verdant trees. For those who want to glide through the placid waters of the lake slowly, boating facilities are also open. During the weekends, boating is possible in the mosdy lake when there is enough water in it.
Tower of Observation : An observation tower on the seventeenth Hair Pin Bend provides a (much needed) place for a stopover. There is nothing better than enjoying the jaw dropping scenery below at this stage.
Sanjeevani Hills The hill became famous when Lord Hanuman had to take the whole hill with him to heal Lord Laxmanan by looking for a certain herb and not finding it. A piece dropped down here on its way back from Sri Lanka with the hill, and it came to be known as Sanjeevani Hills. This hill is part of the Sirumalai Hills.
Saathiyar Basin The Saathiyar River flows southward and empties into the Vaigai River, originating from the Sirumalai hills. An area of 819 square kilometres (316 sq mi) covers the basin. The total surface area of the sub-basin is 4,279.89 hectares (10,575.8 acres). The Saathiyar Dam was installed across this river for irrigation purposes in New Vadipatti. This is the catchment area of Madurai's Saathiyar Dam.
Vellimalai Murugan Temple The famous temple of Lord Murugan (Vellimalai Murugan Temple) is situated in the mountain that climbs over the valley for 45 minutes. This temple is renowned in the surrounding towns and cities.
Khandige Estate In the Sirumalai hills, an isolated group of hills in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, the Khandige estate spread over 1000 acres, drained by three rivers, 2 of which are seasonal, flowing through the Khandige estate before flowing into the plains as a series of waterfalls. During the months of October and December, the area receives an average of 120-132 cm of rain. This estate has a natural wealth of flora and fauna, particularly medicinal plants, surrounded by approximately 20-30,000 acres of reserve forest, which has been left largely untouched. The primary objective of this estate is to maintain the bio-diversity of the Western Ghats and to avoid or at least stop the degradation of this rich eco-system due to rampant deforestation.
The property is surrounded by thick forest and is a common place for wild animals. There are a lot of medicinal plants and three rivers, two of which are perennial. There are a variety of waterfalls. The purpose of the property is to maintain the Ghats' biodiversity.
Hillock International School : The School is situated at Sirumalai, the cool environment and feeling of well being adds to the richness of the place.
Selvi Koil Point : The place offers a panoramic view of Dindigul and Chinnamalai town. At dusk, the Selvi Koil Point unveils a view of the beautifully illuminated Dindigul and adjacent Chinnamalai town down below, which appear oval-shaped.
In the Sirumalai Hills, named after the famous Agastya Siddhar, Agastya Puram Agastya Puram is situated. Agasthiarpuram is a sacred place in the region of Sirumalai where siddhas (monks) have been living since ancient days. The area is surrounded by medicinal herbs and plants. There is the historic Shiva Lingam at the tip of the hill, which dates back at least 500 years.
