Dolphin's Nose: The short 3 kilometre hike is extremely easy and the top, shaped like a dolphin's nose, as the name implies, provides spectacular views of the hill station. The viewpoint of the Pillar Rocks is one of the most visited locations by tourists to Kodaikanal. Bear Shola Falls: Bear Shola Falls is a popular tourist spot in the area, located just 2 kilometres from Kodaikanal Lake. During the monsoons, as the water flows down from the hilltop making its way through the greenery of the area, this cascade is a seasonal attraction that comes to life in its fullest.
An curious legend behind this place 's unusual name is that it was a favourite haunt of a bear who used to drink water regularly from this water body, thus giving it the name Bear Shola Falls. For those who want to escape from concrete forest parks, this destination's quiet and calm atmosphere is a true sanctuary. With many common and uncommon species of animals and plants, a visit to this area will bring one up close and personal.
Thalaiyar Falls: Thalaiyar Falls, also known as Rat Tail Falls, is situated in the lush green slopes of the Dindigul District of the Palani Hill Ranges, in Kodaikanal. It is the highest waterfall in Tamil Nadu, the sixth highest waterfall in India and the 267th highest waterfall in the world, with a height of 297 m. In the park at Dum Dum Rock, there is a view tower where you can get a beautiful view of the falls and the Manjalar Dam. The water from the river coming to the falls is from the village of Perumal Malai, 9 km downstream and is said to be clear. On the contrary, it may be tainted, and tourists to the area are therefore advised to avoid consuming it.
The Temple of Kurunji is primarily dedicated to Lord Murugu and is dexterously situated 3 km from the lake. The temple is also associated with the Kurunji Flower, which blooms once in 12 years, carpeting the entire area with purple flowers, offering spectacular views of small villages, Palani Hills and Northern plains, and carrot plantation on the terraced slopes.
Kodaikanal Solar Observatory: The Kodaikanal Solar Observatory, situated at the southern tip of the beautiful Palani Hills, was founded in 1899 and is owned and operated by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. Its longitudinal position makes it a special location for solar behaviour analysis. The most comprehensive collection of solar records, dating back to the 19th century, is also housed in the scientific home. Its specific geography makes the spot particularly ideal (especially relative to the sun) for accurate cosmic observations.
