At a distance of 18 km from Kangra City, Dharamshala or Dharamsala City is located in the Kangra district. Dharamsala is divided into upper and lower divisions at different altitudes. The lower division is the town itself, Dharamsala. The upper-division, however, is situated 3 km away and is generally known as Mcleodganj. The bus links and the busy market are prominently visited in Dharamsala.
Dharamsala is the residence of the Dalai Lama, the Buddhist leader in exile from Dharamsala, who runs his administration. Now, what better place on earth to witness the rich and royal Tibetan culture than this little town set at the foot of the Dhauladhar mountains. In the year 1959, with his disciples, the Dalai Lama came to India and settled, somewhat embellished, the town of Dharamsala, making it into a little Lhasa. Dharamsala has been a centre of meditation and peace for many years, with thousands of pilgrims coming here from all over the world to seek Nirvana.
The quaint Dharamshala Cricket Ground, also known as the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Ground, lies nestled in the lap of the majestic Himalayan mountain range. The Gyuto Monastery is one of the beautiful and famous monasteries situated in Dharamshala, popularly known for the study of tantric meditation and philosophy. Established in India in 1959, it was created to maintain and encourage the great teacher Ksongkhapa 's legacy of Black Magic, widely known as Tantric Teachings. The majestic monastery helped to portray how, unlike common practise, black magic can be used for people's well-being.
On a hilltop with a commanding view of the Dhauladhar Ranges and the Beas River from there, the Gyuto Monastery is beautifully built. On the grounds of the temple, a magnificent gold-plated statue of Lord Buddha is housed, glistening as the sun's rays rain on it early in the morning. In order to observe the peaceful and serene monastery that is one of the delights of Dharamshala, many visitors and Buddhists come to the glorious Gyuto Monastery.
Situated at an altitude of 1,775 metres above sea level near the village of Tota Rani in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district of Mcleodganj, Dal Lake is a small but picturesque lake. The lake is surrounded by rugged mountains and tall Deodar trees, with its name taken from Srinagar 's famous and breathtaking Dal Lake. The lake, quaint and quiet, encourages nature lovers to witness numerous types of fish in their natural environment.
The lake is a great place to laze about with loved ones and spend a carefree day in the lap of nature, with its lush greenery and blooming flowers. This tourist attraction is visited during the day by nature lovers. Hiking tours across the lake are a choice for adventure seekers. If you trek up to Naddi, which is also known as the Sunset Point, Dal Lake is also a perfect place to stop over and relax.
Every September, because of the Shiva Temple here, a great fair is arranged on the banks of Dal Lake. To mark the presence of Lord Shiva, this gala event is celebrated and a significant number of people from the Gaddi Tribe attend it.
Dharamshala, India's smallest tea area, has beautifully lined and arranged tea gardens throughout the valley of Kangra. It is known for its high quality tea and is available in many shops in Dharamshala and Mcleodganj for purchase.

To commemorate the memory of those who fought to save our motherland, the War Memorial in the forests of Dharamshala was built. Many valiant Kangra soldiers lost their lives as war heroes during the Indo-China Wars of 1947-48, 1962, 1965, and 1971, and the UN Peace Operations. Three immense black stone panels, each 24 foot wide, retain their memory in stone.
The War Memorial is surrounded by Dharamshala 's poetic pine trees, leading across a quaint walkway to lush gardens. Look out for the martyred soldiers' names carved on the panels of stone.
