About Temple:Thenupuriswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Shiva located in the holy village of Patteeswaram, Tamil Nadu, India. Shiva is worshiped as Thenupuriswarar, and is represented by the lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Nyanambikai.

History:

• This is one of the 276 Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalams and 23rd Shiva Sthalam on the Southern bank of the river Cauveri in Chozha Nadu (Thenkarai).
• Lord Shiva in this temple is a Swayambumurthi (self-manifested).
• This temple is very famous for Goddess Durgai and is popularly known as Durgai Amman temple.
• This east facing temple has 3 corridors and its main tower (Rajagopuram) has 7- tiers.
• This ancient temple is on the northern bank of the river Thirumalairayan. This temple is very big and is spread over a sprawling 4.4 acre temple campus. It has 4 main towers at all the four entrances.
• The historical names of this place are Mazhapadi, Patteecharam, Devivanam and Shaktivanam.
• This place was once called Pazhayarai and it was the capital of the Chola Kingdom. 

Itinerary

Morning pick up from Theni. Proceed towards Thanjavur. Hotel Check in. Brahadeshwara Temple. Gangaikonda Cholapuram. Siva Ganga Garden. Vijayanagar Fort. Come back to Hotel. Overnight stay at Thanjavur.

Day 2 - Thanjavur Sightseeing

Morning Breakfast at Hotel. Bangaru Kamakshi Temple. Schwartz church. Swami Malai temple. Come back to Hotel. Overnight stay at Thanjavur.

Day 3 - Thanjavur Sightseeing

Morning Breakfast at Hotel. Check out from Hotel. To visit Sarasvati Mahal. Thanjavur Maratha Palace. Sri Dhenupureeswarar Temple at Patteecharam (Patteeswaram) Then proceed towards Theni. Finally drop at Theni.
